New Delhi, May 10, 2025 — In a significant move amid rising tensions with Pakistan, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced the temporary suspension of civilian flight operations at 32 airports across northern and western India. The suspension will remain in effect until 5:29 a.m. on May 15, according to an official release.

Initially, 24 airports—mostly located near the India-Pakistan border or close to key military installations—were closed until May 10. However, with the situation intensifying following India’s targeted strikes on May 7, the closure has now been extended and expanded to cover 32 airports.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI), along with other aviation bodies, has issued a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) formalizing the shutdown from May 9 through May 14, citing “operational reasons.”

The decision follows a string of retaliatory measures, including India’s precision air strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as part of Operation Sindoor, launched in the early hours of May 7. These strikes were carried out in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-linked militants.

Here is the full list of airports currently closed to civilian operations:
Adampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu-Manali (Bhuntar), Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot (Hirasar), Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Thoise, and Uttarlai.

The move underscores the heightened state of alert in India’s western and northern regions as the standoff with Pakistan continues to evolve.
