Operation Sindoor Update: Army Shoots Down Armed Pakistani Drones Over Khasa Cantonment in Amritsar

Delhi Airport Operations Unaffected; Intense Pakistani Shelling Claims Lives of J&K Official, Toddler Among Five Dead

Security personnel and civilians gather after houses and vehicles were damaged due to shelling from Pakistan, at a residential area in Jammu, Saturday, May 10, 2025.

New Delhi/Amritsar, May 10, 2025 — In a significant escalation along the border, the Indian Army confirmed that multiple armed drones originating from Pakistan were intercepted and shot down over Khasa Cantonment in Amritsar early Saturday morning. According to a statement released by Army officials, the drones were detected around 5 a.m. and were swiftly neutralized by air defence units stationed in the area.

Meanwhile, in a tragic development, five people — including a senior Jammu and Kashmir government official and a toddler — lost their lives in heavy shelling by Pakistani forces. Among the deceased was Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri, Raj Kumar Thapa. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his condolences in a post on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that even his residence had come under fire during the shelling.

The situation prompted the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to announce the temporary suspension of civilian flights at 32 airports across northern and western India. In a statement, the DGCA said the closure will be in effect from May 9 until 5:29 a.m. on May 15, citing “operational reasons.” However, flight operations at Delhi airport remain unaffected and are continuing as normal.

In the wake of growing concerns, Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi reassured citizens that there is no scarcity of essential goods. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi on Friday, Joshi urged people to stay vigilant and avoid being misled by rumours or false reports circulating online.
