India Launches Operation Keller in Shopian Following Operation Sindoor

The Indian Army launched Operation Keller in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, killing three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists on May 13, 2025.

Just a few days after India’s bold strike under Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army launched another major counter-terror operation — this time in the dense forests of Shopian in South Kashmir. Named Operation Keller, the mission was carried out on May 13, 2025, and led to the killing of three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists.

Security forces acted on a specific intelligence input about the presence of militants in the Shukroo Keller area. A cordon and search operation was launched by the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles unit, which turned into a fierce gunfight.

Among those killed was a top LeT commander, Shahid Kuttay, a resident of Chotipora Heerpora in Shopian. Kuttay had joined the terror ranks in March 2023 and was classified as an “A” category terrorist. He was involved in several attacks, including the killing of a BJP sarpanch in May 2024. In fact, just last month, his house had been demolished by authorities after being linked to terror activity.

The second militant was identified as Adnan Shafi from Wanduna Melhora. He had joined LeT in October 2024 and was allegedly involved in the killing of a non-local laborer in Wachi. He was classified as a “C” category terrorist. The identity of the third terrorist is still being verified.

Operation Keller came right after Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory strike on May 7 targeting nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. That strike followed the brutal killing of 26 civilians — including tourists — in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow on April 22.

Together, these operations reflect a strong and clear message from India: acts of terror will not go unanswered.
