With a score of 625 out of 625, Shagufta Anjum, a student from Government Composite Urdu High School in Sirsi, Uttara Kannada district, has become one of Karnataka’s top scorers.
Shagufta, a Bihar native, has spent the last five years attending the Government Urdu school. Her mother, Sahira Banu, is a homemaker, while her father, Manjarul Anjum, is a moulvi who formerly served in Bihar. The family lives outside of Sirsi in Tipu Nagar.
Shagufta is the oldest of her parents’ five children. She credited her accomplishment to hard work and the guidance and support of her parents and teachers.
She said she benefited greatly from the additional classes the teachers organized during Ramadan. She wants to relocate to Bengaluru for her PUC and pursue a career as a doctor.
“Shagufta was good in academics from the beginning,” stated Anand S. Korawar, the headmaster of the school. We hoped she would perform well in the SSLC. She received full marks because of her diligence.
In fact, the faculty planned extra classes this year for students who were fasting during Ramzan.
There are 125 pupils at the school overall.
A few organizations have stepped forward to offer help for her further education, according to Mr. Korawar.
