JAIPUR, May 7, 2025 — In response to directives from the Union Home Ministry and amid heightened tensions following ‘Operation Sindoor’, Rajasthan witnessed a large-scale security preparedness exercise on Wednesday. Security personnel conducted mock drills simultaneously in 28 cities across the State, while authorities placed districts adjoining the international border on high alert.

As a precautionary measure, authorities closed schools in the border districts of Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Sriganganagar, and postponed scheduled examinations. Officials conducted blackout drills in multiple locations during the late hours to simulate emergency response scenarios.

Authorities shut key airports — including those in Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Kishangarh — and suspended flight operations to Chandigarh and Hindon from Jaipur’s Sanganer Airport. Authorities set up a dedicated help desk at Jodhpur airport to assist stranded passengers.

In Jaipur, residents witnessed a simulated airstrike response — the first such drill since the 1971 India-Pakistan war — as sirens echoed across the city. Officials trained government staff at the State Secretariat, District Collectorate, and BSNL headquarters in emergency evacuation and rescue protocols. Fire brigade teams and police personnel carried out coordinated drills at Rawatbhata near the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station.

Members of civil society also voiced support for India’s military action against terror outfits in Pakistan. At Madrasa Jamia Tayyaba in Jaipur’s Nahari Ka Naka area, students and teachers expressed solidarity with the nation’s efforts against terrorism. The institution’s head, Qari Mohammed Ishaque, emphasized educating students about cross-border terrorism and the importance of communal harmony.

Meanwhile, security forces intensified vigilance in Barmer and Jaisalmer, key districts that share the border with Pakistan. Authorities significantly boosted police presence and stepped up surveillance measures.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who returned from a BJP training camp in Kevadia, Gujarat, chaired a high-level meeting to review the security situation. He instructed officials to enforce national standards for disaster management and ordered the cancellation of all police personnel leaves to ensure round-the-clock readiness.

The drills and accompanying measures underscore Rajasthan’s commitment to national security and readiness in the face of emerging threats.
